Verdict
Lean cooked beef (ground beef, sirloin, etc.) is a nutritious, safe protein source for dogs, high in protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins. Fatty cuts (ribeye, chuck) can trigger pancreatitis with excessive feeding. Raw beef carries Salmonella and E. coli risks. All seasonings, sauces, onions, garlic, and added fats must be absent.
Symptoms to watch for
- • none from plain lean cooked beef
- • pancreatitis from fatty cuts
What to do
Cook beef plain, drain excess fat, and serve in appropriate portions. Unseasoned, well-cooked lean beef is one of the best proteins you can offer.
