Verdict

Yes — remove seeds and rind.

Verdict

Cantaloupe flesh is a hydrating, nutritious treat for dogs high in vitamins A, B6, and C, folate, fiber, and potassium. It is low in calories. The rind is tough and difficult to digest, potentially causing GI upset or obstruction. The seeds should be removed (not toxic but can cause digestive upset). Moderation is important as cantaloupe is moderately high in sugar.

Symptoms to watch for

  • GI upset from rind
  • diarrhea in excess

What to do

Remove all seeds and the rind. Cut flesh into bite-sized chunks. A moderate serving is appropriate. Great summer treat, especially frozen.
